Northern Ireland Clinical Research Network (NICRN) Diabetes Team Host World Diabetes Day Stand in RVH Foyer, Belfast

November 25, 2024

Our BHSCT Diabetes Research team organised a stand in the foyer of the RVH Belfast, on Thursday 14th November.

We aimed to raise public awareness regarding NICRN and clinical trials. As a Diabetes team, we recognized World Diabetes Day as an excellent opportunity to merge diabetes awareness with information about diabetes clinical trials. Our objective was to illustrate the nature of research, the significance of participating in NHS research, the specific clinical trials we conduct, the process for joining the study, and the dedicated team that supports these efforts.

To recognise World Diabetes Day (WDD) the NICRN Diabetes Research Co-ordinators (CRN Charlotte, CRN Azenith and CRN Deslyn) welcomed over 100 members of the public, patients and healthcare staff at their information stand in the Royal Victoria Hospital Foyer.  This was one of the 613 officially registered World Diabetes Day events covering 113 countries worldwide and was recognised in the official WDD website.
World Diabetes Day is a global occasion for people with diabetes, healthcare professionals, advocates, policymakers and the public to unite to raise awareness of and take action on diabetes.

The morning successfully promoted the diabetes and endocrinology portfolio of studies within NICRN, with a large turnout of members of the public, patients and health care colleagues all interested in how to participate and get involved in research. We were delighted with the positive response and willingness of the public to know more about research and wanting to actively participate. A big thank you to all those who attended, and for all those who take part in research and make such a huge impact in advancing healthcare through research!

We extend our sincere gratitude to NIRCN for supporting this event. Our appreciation also goes to Diabetes UK for offering informative leaflets regarding newly diagnosed diabetes, as well as other posters related to diabetes awareness. Additionally, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to NICRN for granting the diabetes team an approval for making information leaflets and posters, as well as for providing the necessary stationery for this occasion. Lastly, we would like to express our special appreciation to our Managers for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout this event.
