NI Clinical Research Network Critical Care team recruit 45 patients in one month in Belfast Trust

Our BHSCT Critical Care Team have had an outstanding run of recruitment this year.

The team based at the Critical Care Building, Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, led by Dr Jon Silversides have 15 recruiting studies on their research portfolio.

In the last four months the team have recruited 130 patients. In one month alone the team recruited 45 critically ill patients to 12 studies – An outstanding achievement in a difficult recruitment environment. Recruiting critically ill patients often requires gaining consent from the patients family. The team manage this with efficiency, empathy and compassion, working together to provide excellency and best practice for their patients and their families.

The team thanked the ICU teams and families of patients for their support which enabled them to recruit so many patients to their cutting edge research trials. In turn the Clinical Research network said thank you to the research team with a lunchtime spread, attended by network director Prof Jonathan Jackson and Senior manager Dr Paul Biagioni.
