Recognition from Dr Cathy Jack and BHSCT for NI Clinical Research Network Respiratory nurse, Bernie King

August 30, 2022

As we enter the month of July I’d like to offer many congratulations to one of our Respiratory Research Nurses: Bernie King who received a Certificate of Recognition from Dr Cathy Jack on behalf of BHSCT for her outstanding work recruiting patients for The Post-hospitalisation COVID-19 study (P –HOSP COVID).

P – HOSP is a consortium of leading researchers and clinicians from across the UK working together to understand and improve long-term health outcomes for patients who had been in hospital with confirmed  COVID-19. Bernie and her Northern Ireland Clinical Research Network, Respiratory Group colleagues recruited 197 participants to P-HOSP and followed up with scheduled study visits, for a year following the patients discharge date.

Bernie and the wider team also helped to recruit to the GenOMICC study, a research study which aims to unite clinicians and scientists from around the world to find the genetic factors that determine outcome in critical illness. The majority of participants recruited to GenOMICC were co-enrolled with PHOSP.

NI Clinical Research Network Director, Dr Jonathan Jackson presented Bernie with a recognition certificate, also present were Respiratory Consultant, Dr Nick Magee and Esther Ramsey, Respiratory Clinical Research Nurse.

Bernie said, “The success of the study and our status as one of the top 5 recruiting PHOSP sites in the UK was a team effort.”
