NI Number 1 Recruitment Site in UK as SHSCT Recruit their First Patient to NIHR SINFONIA Trial

The Critical Care Research Team at SHSCT have recruited their First Patient to the SINFONIA Trial within 6 Days of Opening.

SINFONIA is an NIHR funded trial sponsored by Belfast Health and Social Care Trust led by Chief Investigator Dr Jon Silversides, Critical Care Clinical lead for the Clinical Research Network.

SINFONIA: Sugammadex for Prevention of Post-Operative Pulmonary Complication aims to conduct a large clinical trial comparing two drugs used to improve recovery from general anaesthesia and prevent lung complications in patients undergoing major surgery.

The study aims to recruit 2500 patients nationwide, sites in NI include Craigavon Area Hospital SHSCT and Royal Victoria Hospital and Belfast City Hospital, BHSCT.

NI is leading recruitment with 61 patients recruited so far – out performing much larger sites in the UK.
