The EDGE 3 Conference took place on 24th – 25th April at The Vox, Birmingham. The event was sponsored by RQA (Research Quality Association), CIRU (Clinical Informatics Research Unit) and BC Platforms.
A delegation of our Clinical Research Administrative team from across all HSCNI trusts attended the two day event. The theme of the 2024 Conference was EVOLVE: Engage. Embrace. Empower. This was also the first conference since COVID-19 and since the rollout of EDGE Version 3.
The event was hosted by Fergus Walsh BBC Medical Editor, with the aim of sharing best practice and improving working methods across the clinical research environment. EDGE is the only clinical research database used by the NI Clinical Research Network and all HSCNI trusts.
Themes included “Celebrating Paper to Digital” highlighting features and functions that have improved efficiencies and processes including the addition of an electronic delegation log, electronic site files, archiving capabilities and remote monitoring facilities. Breakout sessions held throughout the conference covered topics such as finance, Power BI, workflows, reporting, participant tracking and working with pharmacy using EDGE.
Lastly, the patient is always at the heart of Research and Clinical Data and this was highlighted by two patients stories on each day of the conference to remind attendees why clinical research and capturing clinical research data is so important and how every person working in research plays a vital role in improving healthcare.
The team highlighted how informative and engaging the conference was and the immense value they gained from speakers, presentations and sessions over the two day event and how they plan to implement this new knowledge across NI Clinical Research Network teams and R&D offices in NI.
